    About Farrington’s Mellow Yellow

    Farrington’s Mellow Yellow was founded by fourth generation farmer, Duncan Farrington. Born and brought up in the Northamptonshire village of Hargrave, following University, he returned to the family farm to join his parents in the family business. However, it soon became clear that farming, driving tractors and growing crops would not be enough to sustain the family for another four generations. He returned to his University research on cold pressed rapeseed oil and a passion was awoken, which quickly turned into an obsession for the fantastic culinary properties and nutritional benefits packed into the tiny black seeds.

    Following years of research, Duncan launched Farrington’s Mellow Yellow in 2005 and became Britain’s first ‘seed-to-bottle’ producer of cold pressed rapeseed oil. Sustainability has always been important for Duncan. As a LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) farmer, Duncan farms in an environmentally responsible way, making sure to nurture nature.

    Farrington’s Mellow Yellow Rapeseed Oil is grown to LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) Marque standards, this is a farm assurance system that shows that the food has been grown sustainably with care for the environment. Through the implementation of wildflower meadow margins, beetle banks, beehives and much more, Duncan has improved the biodiversity on his farm and ensures that sustainability stays front of mind.

    In 2020, Farrington’s Mellow Yellow made history as the world’s first food producer to be certified as both carbon and plastic neutral. After reducing their carbon emissions through LEAF farming strategies, they offset their remaining carbon emissions by supporting reforestation initiatives and green energy schemes. This means that Farrington’s Mellow Yellow is not adding any emissions to the atmosphere. Farrington’s partnered with rePurpose Global to fund the removal & recycling of 1 kg of plastic from the environment that would otherwise have been landfilled or flushed into the oceans for every 1kg of plastic packaging used in Farrington’s products. This industry leading approach to sustainability has now earned Farrington’s Mellow Yellow a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development!
