Fresh Produce Buyer

As an experienced fresh produce buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing and managing the stock of the category for the company. This role requires a deep understanding of the produce market, strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers. The Fresh Produce Buyer plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability of high-quality produce while optimising costs and meeting customer requirements

Responsibilities will include:

• Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of fresh produce, considering factors such as quality, reliability, pricing and sustainability
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to secure the best possible pricing, payment terms and delivery schedules
• Continuously monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timely deliveries and resolving any issues that may arise
• Ensure continuation of year round supply and identify complimentary sources to secure and enhance market share
• Conduct regular review meetings and build strong relationships with suppliers to monitor product/supplier performance and ensure commercial targets are hit
• Stay updated on market trends, pricing fluctuations and supply-demand dynamics of fresh produce
• Conduct regular market research and analysis to anticipate changes in availability, pricing and quality
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as sales and marketing teams to forecast demand and plan procurement accordingly
• Establish and maintain quality standards for fresh produce, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and industry best practices
• Conduct regular inspections and quality checks on incoming produce shipments to ensure adherence to specifications
• Address any quality issues promptly, working closely with suppliers to resolve them and prevent future occurrences
• Develop and implement inventory management strategies to optimize stock levels, minimise waste and reduce costs
• Monitor inventory levels, track shelf life and coordinate with relevant teams to ensure timely rotation and disposal of perishable items
• Collaborate with transport and warehouse teams to ensure efficient storage, handling and distribution of fresh produce
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers fostering open communication and collaboration
• Attend industry events, trade shows and supplier meetings to stay connected with the market and identify new opportunities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as sales and marketing to understand customers requirements and execute successful product launches
• Worth with key customers to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions
