Scottish Shortbread Preparation: 10 minutes Baking time: 15-20 minutes Portions: 16 Ingredients 500g (1lb) McDougalls Plain Flour 500g (1lb) McDougalls Self Raising Flour 500g (1lb) Butter 225g (8oz) Caster Sugar 1/2 teaspoon Salt Method 1. Cream the butter and sugar together. Rub in the McDougalls Plain and McDougalls Self Raising Flour and salt with your fingertips. 2. Shape into 2 rounds with your hands. Do not use a rolling pin. Press lightly into a greased and lines baking tray. Pinch edges with your fingers and thumb to give a nice edge. Pierce the base all over with a fork. 3. Bake at 190°C/ 374°F/ Gas Mark 5 for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. For fan assisted ovens cook at 180'C/ 350'F/ Gas Mark 4. 4. Leave to cool, cut into the required shape then transfer to a wire rack. Serving Suggestions Dust with icing sugar. Useful hints and tips: • Pre-sifted so you don't have to. • Ideal for pastries, biscuits, sauces and gravies. • For best results, once the bag is opened, keep tightly closed and use within six months. • For self raising flour add approx 3% baking powder. This product needs to be baked prior to consumption. Please do not eat the product raw.
